Light has gone out in all provinces of the country.
In Iraq, lights have gone out in all provinces of the country, reports (Reuters https://www.reuters.com/) citing the country's energy ministry. The reasons are still being investigated.
The blackout came amid the ongoing conflict in the region, which began after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iran has responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones that have targeted U.S.-affiliated facilities inside Iraq.
In the immediate aftermath of the blackout, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Wednesday renewed its call for U.S. citizens to leave the country immediately. "U.S. citizens in Iraq are urged to leave the country as soon as it is safe to do so and to remain in place until conditions permit safe exit," the embassy said in a statement. "If it is safe to do so, Americans should leave Iraq immediately."
