Bloomberg: Trump Has Realized The Need For An Alliance With Europe

During the operation against Iran, the U.S. did need the help of European allies.
Trump's frustration reflects a basic reality: Europe remains heavily dependent on the U.S. through institutions like NATO, but retains leverage. The U.S. projects its power most effectively in the Middle East when it can draw on allies' geographic advantages - logistics centers in Germany, air bases in Britain, naval bases in Spain and overflight permits that allow planes to move freely, writes Bloomberg.
Many European governments still fear a breakdown in relations. But Trump has not sought to build a coalition for the Iran campaign, yet the war still relies heavily on European territory - its bases, ports and airspace. As the American president has increasingly resorted to aggressive measures, his previous disdain for allies has become a liability.
So far, European countries have refused to participate in Trump's Iran campaign. Part of the problem is the way he has launched the fighting with little or no consultation with European capitals. Governments have made clear at the outset that they do not plan to participate, but many have refrained from directly condemning the strikes.
