The U.S. president spoke about Rubio's special mission.
U.S. President Donald Trump said that Cuba "will fall soon" and announced his intention to involve Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the process. The White House chief said this in a phone interview with CNN on March 6.
Trump has previously commented that "Cuba will fall" and even allowed for the possibility of a "friendly takeover" of the country by the United States.
"They want to make a deal, so I'm going to send Marco over there and we'll see how that works out," Trump said.
The US president said his administration is now focused on confronting Iran, with Cuba as the next priority.
He said Cuban-Americans are already "ready to return to their homeland" after 50 years of isolation. The White House chief called Cuba a "special challenge" and added that Rubio could lead the mission after current operations are completed.
