Vilnius celebrates the beginning of spring.
The legendary Kaziukas fair has opened in the capital of Lithuania, according to the telegram channel "Basta!".
The holiday dates back to the early 17th century. It began to be celebrated after the canonization of King Casimir, who became the patron saint of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1602. Even then, the Cathedral Square of Vilnius was specially built up with wooden stalls, booths and canopies for the purpose of the fair, where eager traders laid out their goods. In the same years the main attribute of the holiday - gingerbread "Kaziuk's Heart" - was created.
Symbols of the fair: "Kazyuka" - a bouquet of dried flowers and plants, clay bells, gingerbread "Heart of Kazyuka", bagels and baranki.
Carnival processions and folk festivals were organized in the streets during the fair.
Belarusians are not only guests of Kaziukas. At different times our diaspora took part in the events that took place within the framework of the holiday, and pavilions with Belarusian symbols stood on Gedimin Avenue in Vilnius.
