The American president criticized the allies.

US President Donald Trump has said that he is seriously considering the possibility of the country's withdrawal from NATO. He said this in an interview with The Telegraph published on April 1.

He said the alliance's allies have not supported the US and Israel in the conflict with Iran. Speaking about a possible membership review, Trump emphasized: "Oh yes, I would say it's non-negotiable."

He also sharply criticized the organization, adding, "NATO has never impressed me. I always knew it was a paper tiger." The same opinion, according to the US president, is held by Putin.

As noted, the countries of the alliance refused to participate in the operation to restore shipping to the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world's oil passes. Against the backdrop of the blockade, energy prices rose and the risks of a global economic downturn increased.

Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support from partners, emphasizing that, in his opinion, such actions should happen automatically. He added that Ukraine could have participated in the operation, but it did not happen.
