The issue of digital sovereignty has been hotly debated in France since the beginning of the year.

As part of a sweeping government plan to ensure digital sovereignty, public bodies in France will switch from Windows to Linux, Les Numeriques writes, citing authorities. Public institutions are also recommended to replace the video conferencing service Google Meet with its French counterpart.

"Digital transformation" will be carried out first of all by the Interministerial Directorate for Digital Affairs (DINUM), the Directorate General of Enterprises (DGE, a directorate of the Ministry of Economy responsible for innovation and competition development), the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) and the French Public Procurement Directorate (DAE). By the fall, all other ministries will have to submit plans to abandon American software.

The issue of digital sovereignty has been hotly debated in France since the beginning of the year. The government announced it was "accelerating plans to reduce digital dependence on non-European countries" due to concerns that the US could restrict access to some of its technologies in Europe.
