Swedish Fighter Jets Intercept A Russian Submarine

The submarine was spotted in Kattegat waters.

Swedish Armed Forces fighter jets have detected and escorted a Russian submarine in the Kattegat Strait, which is located between Denmark and Sweden. This was reported by representatives of the Swedish Army.

The incident occurred on April 10. After the submarine was detected, JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets took to the air, made visual contact and began an escort. According to the military, it was a Kilo-class submarine heading towards the Baltic Sea.

The Swedish side noted that further monitoring of the submarine's route is being conducted jointly with allies.

The army emphasized that such operations are part of the regular monitoring of the situation in the region and are aimed at maintaining the security of Sweden itself and partner countries.
