The Iranian leader does not appear in public.
Those close to the entourage of Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei say he suffered serious and disfiguring injuries in an airstrike at the start of the conflict. This is reported by Reuters.
The strike hit his residence in Tehran, according to interlocutors. Khamenei suffered severe injuries to his face and legs as a result, with some sources not ruling out that he may have lost one leg.
Despite this, the 56-year-old leader is said to remain clear-headed and continues to carry out his duties remotely - participating in meetings via audio link and influencing key decisions, including war and negotiations with the United States.
Iran's official representative to the UN did not respond to inquiries about Khamenei's health. No photos or videos of him have been released since his appointment on March 8, following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei.
The nature of his injuries reportedly overlap with statements by U.S. officials. In particular, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth had previously said the Iranian leader was "wounded and probably disfigured."
The strike itself occurred on February 28 - the first day of the war between Iran, the US and Israel. The attack, according to sources, killed not only his father but also other family members.
Experts say that even without accounting for the injuries, the new leader's position remains not fully strengthened. Analyst Alex Vatanka believes that Khamenei does not yet have the level of power that his father had, and it may take years to strengthen it.
Factually, the key role in strategic decision-making is now played by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is estimated to have helped the new leader gain a foothold in power.
Khamenei's absence from the public space has caused a wave of rumors on social networks. Users are actively spreading memes asking "Where is Mojtaba?", pointing to the uncertainty surrounding his condition and whereabouts.
At the same time, supporters of the authorities consider this closure justified - due to the threat of new strikes from the US and Israel.
Sources say that the first public appearances or photos of the leader may appear only in a few months - depending on his health condition and security level.
