Only Two Countries Have Backed Trump's "Peace Council" With Money

The total amount of funds fell short of one billion.

The Reuters agency, citing sources, reported that of the nine countries that pledged funding for the "Peace Council" created by US President Donald Trump, only the UAE, Morocco and the US itself have made actual contributions. The total amount of funds received, according to the agency, did not reach $1 billion.

It is about the agreements reached at the February meeting of the "Peace Council" in Washington. At that time, Trump said that a number of participating countries - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Kuwait - pledged to allocate about $7 billion for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The US, in turn, planned to add another $10 billion, and the UN - $2 billion. The funds were supposed to be used, among other things, for the work of the National Committee for the Management of Gaza (NCAG), which was to gain control over the territory after Hamas disarmed.

According to Reuters, a representative of the "Peace Council" Nikolai Mladenov told Palestinian organizations that there are actually no funds at the moment. At the same time, the organization rejected reports of a lack of funding, saying that the structure acts as a compact mechanism for implementing projects and raises capital as needed. It emphasized that all requests for funding are allegedly being fulfilled promptly and in full.
