The U.S. suspects the PRC of preparing military aid to Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump has reacted sharply to a U.S. intelligence report about China's possible preparations to supply arms to Iran. According to CNN, Washington views such a scenario as a serious escalation that could affect the course of the two-week truce.
Trump said Beijing would face serious consequences if it transfers weapons to Tehran.
"If China does that, it's going to be in big trouble, okay?" - the US president emphasized.
He also did not specify whether he had discussed the issue with Chinese leader Si Jinping, with whom he plans to meet early next month. According to CNN, US intelligence believes that China may be preparing to supply air defense systems to Iran, despite Beijing's official denials.
The channel's sources claim that Beijing is allegedly trying to organize arms transfers through third countries to hide their origin. The weapons in question are MANPADS man-portable surface-to-air missile systems, which pose a threat to US aircraft and could be used in the event of a ceasefire breakdown.
The Chinese embassy in Washington rejected the accusations, saying Beijing "does not supply weapons to any of the parties to the conflict" and urged the US to "refrain from baseless accusations."
