Hungarian Elections Kick Off With Record Voter Turnout

Key opponents have already voted.

As of 09:00 (local time, 10:00 Minsk) on April 12, 16.89% of voters cast their ballots in the parliamentary elections in Hungary. This is significantly higher than the figure recorded at a similar stage of the previous elections four years ago.

As of 7 am, the turnout was 3.46% - almost twice as much as four years ago (1.8% then). As of 9 a.m., it had reached 16.89%, up 6% from the last election (10.31%).

The key opponents - incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban and opposition Tisa party leader Peter Madjar - have already voted. The day before, during recent election rallies, they both expressed confidence in their victory.

At the same time, Orban told reporters that he would have congratulated his rival if he had won.
