Moldova Will Officially Leave The CIS In April 2027

Chisinau continues its course towards European integration.

Moldova has officially notified the secretariat of its withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States and will stop participating in the organization in April 2027, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popshoj said, writes noi.md.

"On April 8, a notification was sent to the secretariat in Minsk, and we received confirmation of its receipt," he said.

The decision to withdraw was formalized after the denunciation of founding agreements with CIS countries. On April 2, the parliament approved the relevant initiative - 60 out of 101 deputies voted "in favor", 26 representatives of the opposition were against. President Maya Sandu signed the denunciation decrees on April 8.

Moldova will become the third country to leave the CIS, after Georgia and Ukraine.

Parliament explained that the withdrawal from the CIS is linked to the course of integration into the European Union.
