More Than 50% Of Britons Want To Go Back To The EU

Even among conservatives, 39% of respondents approve of the idea of a comeback.
The majority of UK residents are keen to return to the European Union. The mood in the country has changed radically ten years after the historic Brexit referendum, as confirmed by the results of a large-scale survey by Best for Britain.
This is reported by The Guardian.
Now full reunification with the EU is supported by 53% of all citizens. Interestingly, the poll data shows unity among supporters of different parties:
83% of Labor Party voters want to return to the EU;
84% of Liberal Democrat supporters support reunification;
82% of Green voters favor Union membership.
Even among Conservatives, 39% of respondents approve of the idea of a return, which demonstrates isolation fatigue, the piece notes.
Why Britons want to join the EU
The article argues that one of the main reasons could be the economy. Brexit has created a huge chasm in legislation. Britain has already moved away from European norms in 76 key rules on trade and quality standards since 2020.
British businesses are drowning in red tape. The government's attempts to reduce the amount of paperwork for farmers, for example, have so far yielded no tangible result. Britain is forced to implement European directives without having a say in their creation, and this is a blow to sovereignty.
The sociology expert John Curtis criticized the government during the presentation of the results in Westminster. He believes the authorities' calculations are out of date.
The government's silence on the consequences of leaving the European Union is only adding to the irritation, sociologists say. Political reality requires Labour to take decisive steps, otherwise progressive voters will turn away from them at the next election.
