Iran Deploys Two Tankers In The Strait Of Hormuz

Tehran continues its blockade of the strait.

The Iranian military forcibly changed the course of two oil tankers traveling under the flags of Botswana and Angola and trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency. The ships were forced to turn around due to the ongoing blockade of the strait imposed by Tehran.

The day before, Iranian authorities announced the restoration of full military control over the strategically important strait, accusing the US of piracy and maritime robbery under the guise of blockade. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that any approach to the strait would be considered as collaboration with the enemy and violators would be attacked. The restrictions will remain in place until Washington lifts its blockade.

After Iran's warning, some 20 ships waiting to pass were forced to turn around. According to The Wall Street Journal, each had previously agreed to pay the Iranian military $2 million each for passage. At least two Indian-flagged vessels were attacked by the IRGC while attempting to cross the strait. The situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains tense amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US.
