FT: Turkey Promotes Alternative To The Strait Of Hormuz

The geopolitical stakes are high.

Ankara is stepping up promotion of the Middle Corridor through Armenia, positioning it as an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Financial Times newspaper writes about this, pointing out Turkey expects to open the border with Armenia to unblock the trade route between Europe and Asia, which US President Donald Trump has supported.

The publication notes that the Alijan border crossing, closed 32 years ago, is now at the end of a quiet road, but Ankara hopes the dead end will soon become part of a global trade hub.

The project in question is TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity), which was supported by the American leader as part of peace initiatives between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"The geopolitical stakes are high," the FT states.
