  • 2.04.2026, 9:59

Amid Trump's high-profile statements about the Alliance.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will visit Washington next week, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump.

The Reuters agency reports this, citing NATO spokeswoman Alison Hart and a White House spokeswoman.

The details of the visit have not yet been specified. At the same time, the Alliance spokeswoman assured that Rutte's visit to Trump had been "planned for a long time".

The NATO secretary-general will visit the American president following his public statements that he is seriously considering a U.S. withdrawal from the Alliance.

The remarks came after weeks of Trump criticizing allies over their refusal to participate in a military operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump earlier said the United States could renege on a pledge to defend its NATO allies if they were attacked.
