Earlier, the parties had sent conflicting signals.
The US and Iran are likely to hold talks after all. This is reported by Axios citing sources: according to them, Washington has received a positive signal from Tehran. A delegation of negotiators led by Vice President J.D. Vance will head to Pakistan.
It is expected to arrive in Islamabad by Wednesday evening - in time to complete the previously agreed ceasefire, which Donald Trump effectively extended for another 24 hours. The two-week truce was originally due to expire on Tuesday, but Trump said Monday that the deadline was being pushed back to Wednesday evening.
The sides had previously sent conflicting signals. Trump noted that Iran "intends to negotiate," adding that serious consequences await the country if it does not. At the same time, he emphasized that he expects an agreement that excludes Iran's possession of nuclear weapons.
