Specifically because of YSU.
The need to respond to the actions of Lukashenko's regime declared Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys on April 21 in Luxembourg before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
According to him, Minsk is increasing tensions at the borders. He recalled that the European Humanities University, which operates in Vilnius, was recently declared an "extremist organization" in Belarus.
Budrys stressed that this decision effectively makes faculty, students and their families outside the country a target.
"We have to react to this. And how can we respond? To put pressure on the regime and deprive it of the ability to use global processes to increase threats to our security," said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.
Before the meeting, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said Budrys intends to call on the EU to retaliate against Minsk over the recognition of YSU as an "extremist organization" and seek to bring the issue to the European level.
Also, according to the ministry, the matter may involve sanctions against Belarusian officials involved in the decision, as well as additional support for the European Humanities University.
