Britain Imposes A Lifetime Ban On Cigarettes For Anyone Born After 2008

This does not apply to e-cigarettes.
The UK has approved an unprecedented bill that would make it impossible for current teenagers aged 17 and under to ever legally buy cigarettes in their lifetime (e-cigarettes are not affected). The final parliamentary approval of the document is reported by HBC.
The House of Commons and House of Lords have approved the final text of the "Tobacco and Vapes Act." The document, which will come into force after formal royal approval, is designed to create a "completely smoke-free generation." It permanently closes legal access to all tobacco products to all Britons born from January 1, 2009.
In addition to a total ban on cigarette sales to young people, the government will be given sweeping powers to regulate the e-cigarette market, including control over flavors and package design.
The law also significantly expands smoke-free and vapor-free zones. Vaping will be strictly prohibited in cars with children, on playgrounds, and on school and hospital grounds. However, near medical institutions will leave special places for patients who are trying to cope with nicotine addiction. At the same time, the authorities decided not to touch the open terraces of pubs, beaches and private houses - there smoking and vaping is still allowed.
The representatives of the Conservative Party note that the new rules have greatly upset the tobacco industry and retailers. At the same time, charities and health organizations are urging the government to go even further. They propose to introduce a special tax for tobacco companies to pay out of their own pockets for programs to help those who want to quit smoking.
