Zelensky: Zaporizhzhya NPP Should Return Under Ukrainian Control

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on Sunday. During the meeting, they discussed issues on the ZNPP, in particular, the return of the facility under Ukrainian control.

"During the meeting... stressed the inadmissibility of formalization and legalization of Russian presence at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant," the Ukrainian president said.

According to him, he and Grossi discussed the temporary disconnection of nuclear power plant units from power supply, their power reduction and possible consequences of "these criminal actions."

Zelensky also stressed that for safe operation, the plant should return under the guidance of a licensed operator and Ukraine's nuclear regulator.

"We agreed to continue the IAEA mission to ensure the continuous monitoring of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. I am grateful to Rafael Grossi and the agency's team for their visit to our country on the fortieth anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster," the Ukrainian president summarized.
