Engineering barrages inflict up to a thousand casualties on Russian troops every month, second in effectiveness only to unmanned systems.

According to "Ukrinform", Brigadier General and head of the engineering forces of the AFU Vasyl Sirotenko said during the forum Combat Engineer & Logistics 2026.

According to him, today barriers have become not an auxiliary, but one of the key factors in defeating the enemy on the battlefield.

He explained that modern defense is based on a continuous multi-layered system of obstacles - wire barriers, anti-tank ditches and "dragon's teeth", which are combined with mines.

"The enemy stops, becomes disoriented and suffers losses directly on these boundaries," said Sirotenko.

The officer separately noted the psychological effect of such systems: they force the enemy to change plans, spend resources on reconnaissance or look for detours. This allows the enemy to impose an unfavorable scenario of actions and reduces its rate of attack.

According to the general, only in March 2026 on the engineering barriers destroyed 663 occupants, as well as 95 pieces of equipment. If the enemy is not eliminated immediately, the barrages create conditions for other units, in particular drone operators, to finish him off.

He stressed that the provision of barrages and ammunition is now one of the priorities of the defense strategy, as they not only deter but also directly destroy the enemy.
