Ukraine Strengthens Sanctions Against Lukashenko's Regime

The new package of restrictions was signed by the Ukrainian president.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed a decree on imposing sanctions against Belarusian entities. He stated this in his video message.

"I have already signed a new sanctions package of Ukraine - a weighty package - including with regard to entities from Belarus. This is a signal to many of our partners that it is worth putting pressure on to still reduce the level of this war, its intensity. Russia is not showing goodwill. It should be forced to take certain steps necessary to reduce aggression, and then let them call it their 'goodwill gestures,'" Zelensky said.

He did not specify against whom the sanctions were imposed, but added that "it is necessary for Belarus not to be drawn into the war."

"It is necessary that there should be no operations against other European countries. It is necessary that there be a decent peace in this war of Russia against Ukraine," the Ukrainian leader said.

Reminder, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko on February 18. They include blocking of assets, a ban on participation in business and public procurement, restriction of entry to Ukraine, suspension of licenses and trade agreements, a ban on the transfer of technology and intellectual property, as well as other restrictions.
