Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski had his Belarusian passport revoked.
The human rights center "Viasna" reports. Bialiatski's document was valid until 2028.
"This is a charted form of transnational repressions, designed to make life more difficult for people with a spoiled connection beyond the borders of the country. The arrangements rationalize our ties with Belarus. It's right, because Belarus will always be in our friends and saints," said Ales Beliatski, who was released in December 2025 and forcibly taken to Lithuania, in his commentary to "Viasna.
This is not the first case of passport revocation for released political prisoners. Earlier, more than 20 people reported about this practice, including human rights activist Vladimir Labkovich, blogger Dmitry Kozlov and others.
