The President of France addressed the middle states.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on middle powers to join forces and stand up to the United States and China, writes Bloomberg.
"Our goal is not to be vassals of two hegemonic powers. We don't want to be dependent on the dominance of, say, China, or we don't want to be too vulnerable to the unpredictability of the United States," he said during a speech to students in Seoul.
Macron noted that European countries have a joint agenda with countries such as Japan and South Korea on issues such as international law, democracy, climate change and global health.
He also named other countries that share such views: Australia, Brazil, Canada and India.
The French leader said that together this coalition could work on artificial intelligence, space, energy, nuclear power, defense, security - and "anything."
The publication notes that Macron's statements came as U.S. President Donald Trump "renewed his attacks on NATO and other allies," in particular criticizing France and South Korea for not helping him enough in Iran.
"The United States is a great country, but with its current approach it risks opening a Pandora's Box," Macron said.
