Reuters: Nearly 300 Candidates Nominated For The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

Trump is probably among them.

Some 287 candidates will be considered for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, the secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Thursday. Among the possible nominees is US President Donald Trump. This writes Reuters.

Of this year's nominees, 208 are people and 79 are organizations. The names of the nominees are being kept secret.

The leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have previously said they nominated Trump for this year's award. It is impossible to verify these claims, as nominations have remained secret for 50 years, and the director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Christian Berg Harpviken, has refused to confirm whether Trump was indeed nominated.

The nomination itself does not mean support from the committee. Thousands of people around the world are eligible to nominate candidates: members of governments and parliaments, sitting heads of state, university professors of history, social sciences, law and philosophy, as well as past Nobel Peace Prize winners and others.

The names of possible winners are already appearing on betting websites, from Yulia Navalnaya, widow of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, to Papa Lion and the Sudanese volunteer group Emergency Response Rooms.

Also among the possible nominees for this year's award are U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Danish MP Aya Chemnitz of Greenland, said Norwegian MP Lars Hultbrekken, who nominated them both.

"Together they have worked tirelessly over the years to build trust and ensure the peaceful development of the Arctic region," he said.

Reminder, after the US operation in Venezuela on January 3, 2026, Donald Trump said that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was ready to take over the administration of the country. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Machado was called "nice" by Trump, but said she had no support in the country. The Washington Post, citing two sources close to the White House, reported that Trump refused to support Machado because she did not cede him the Nobel Peace Prize, which she received in December 2025.

Almost two weeks later, on January 16, Donald Trump met with Maria Machado in Washington. During the meeting, the Venezuelan opposition leader presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal.

The Nobel Committee said the Nobel Prize cannot be revoked, divided or transferred.
