The Ukrainian president explained why Ukrainians would not give up their land.

Vladimir Zelensky emphasized in a conversation with journalists that Ukraine cannot simply discuss handing over Donbass, writes The Guardian.

"If we leave it under Russian control, the enemy will take our most defended positions without losses. Creating new fortified defense lines could take a year or a year and a half. Then they will be able to attack Kharkiv and other cities that contribute significantly to our GDP. This will lead to a split in society, and any internal disunity is Putin's key goal and a threat to our independence," the president said.

Zelensky added that he is ready to meet with Putin if there is an opportunity.

With regard to holding presidential elections, the president emphasized that holding them now contradicts the law on martial law. "In addition, it is necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and servicemen who have to vote. How can this be done during an attack?" - he emphasized.
