Belarus Becomes A Nuclear Bridgehead: Ukraine Reacts To Minsk And Moscow Drills

Russia's deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus and joint nuclear exercises form a serious challenge to the existing system of global security.

This is reported by Charter97.org with reference to the publication of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the joint training of nuclear scenarios contradicts the key provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

It is about the prohibition to transfer control over nuclear technologies to states without nuclear status.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons of the Russian Federation on the territory of Belarus near NATO borders actually changes the architecture of regional security.

This step, according to the agency, creates a dangerous precedent for other states.

The Foreign Ministry said that such actions undermine international law and increase tensions.

As a response, the Ministry considers strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia and Belarus, increasing support for Ukraine, as well as expanding the presence of NATO allies on the eastern flank and deepening cooperation with Kiev in the security sphere.

It should be noted that Belarus launched exercises of military units to practice the combat use of nuclear weapons and nuclear support with the participation of the Russian side.
