Hungary Names Condition For Approval Of Ukraine's EU Accession

Budapest has made 11 demands to Kiev.

Kiev's fulfillment of all 11 requirements of Budapest, including the restoration of the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia, is a prerequisite for Hungary to approve the start of Ukraine's integration into the EU. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar at a government briefing, Portfolio reported.

"The Prime Minister announced that the Hungarian government has started technical negotiations with the Ukrainian side on restoring the right of [Hungarians] to use the [Hungarian] language. The Ukrainian government is aware of Hungary's 11-point requirements, which are a prerequisite for Hungary's participation in the opening of the first chapters of [Ukraine's] EU accession agreement," the publication said.

Magyar also noted that he had received assurances from the head of the European Council that Ukraine was ready to immediately start negotiations on EU integration.
