How Trump Wants Regime Change In Cuba

There are several scenarios.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is increasingly discussing the possibility of military pressure on Cuba. This is reported by Politico, noting that there is growing frustration in Washington over the lack of the expected effect of the sanctions campaign against the island.

According to the publication, the White House expected that increased economic pressure, including the restriction of fuel supplies, as well as a demonstration of American force against other states would push the Cuban leadership to make serious economic and political concessions. But that has not happened.

One of Politico's sources says the initial bet was on the weakness of the Cuban leadership and its willingness to compromise under external pressure. But, he says, those expectations have not been met, and now the military scenario is being considered much more seriously than before.

Additional attention to the situation has been drawn by information about the preparation of charges against former Cuban President Raul Castro. This has prompted speculation about the possibility of a forceful operation to detain him, similar to previously discussed scenarios against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

Politico writes that in recent weeks, the U.S. Southern Command has begun to develop various options for potential military action.

The scenarios under consideration include a pinpoint airstrike, which could be aimed at a show of force and pressure on the Cuban authorities, as well as a larger-scale ground operation aimed at regime change.

Sources emphasize that the participation of Cuban emigrant structures in such operations is considered unlikely.
