The Golden Horde controlled the Moscow principality for about two hundred years.
President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said that his country is the heir to the Golden Horde, and called for studying its political and economic model. He said this at the opening of the forum "Golden Horde as a model of steppe civilization," Tengrinews reports. According to Tokayev, the new version of Kazakhstan's Constitution enshrines the continuity of the Great Steppe and its historical heritage. Tokayev said that during the heyday, the territory of Ulus Dzhuchi exceeded 6 million square kilometers, the Horde had about 100 cities, and the power of the Dzhuchid dynasty was maintained for more than six centuries.
Separately, he drew attention to the monetary system of the Horde. "According to experts, about 28 million silver coins were minted. It is symbolic that the name of Kazakhstan's national currency - tenge - goes back to the Horde "dang", from which the word "money" probably comes. This is an illustration that the Golden Horde laid the standards for monetary relations in the region," Tokayev said. The National Bank of Kazakhstan recently issued a thousand silver coins dedicated to the Golden Horde.
The President noted the need to rethink the history of the Golden Horde and urged not to turn the historical heritage into a tool of discord. The Horde in the XIII-XV centuries established power over a significant part of the Russian lands: Russian principalities were in vassal dependence, paid tribute and received permission to reign from the khans. This period is often referred to as the "Horde yoke". The Horde influenced the political system of the principalities, interfered in their internal conflicts. By the end of the XV century, the dependence weakened and actually stopped after 1480, when Moscow stopped paying tribute and the Horde lost control over the Russian lands.
