Flattery, "three autumns" and talk of war.

A meeting between Chinese leader Si Jinping and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin began in Beijing on Wednesday, May 20. They discussed partnership and the war in Iran.

It was reported by CNN.

Putin immediately tried to ingratiate himself with the Chinese leader, using a local expression, "We haven't seen each other for a day, but it's like three autumns have passed."

In turn, Xi Jinping made a statement regarding the war in Iran. He emphasized that its "quick conclusion" is needed to reduce disruptions in energy supplies.

The Chinese leader also said that "the international situation is unstable and turbulent."

"The international situation is characterized by intertwined turbulence and transformation, while unilateral hegemonic currents are raging," he said, using typical Beijing language to criticize what Beijing sees as an abuse of power in U.S. foreign policy.

Si Jinping said that with this in mind, China and Russia should strengthen their "comprehensive strategic coordination."

The Kremlin said the Russian and Chinese delegations have already held talks in Beijing in a narrow format, with an expanded meeting now underway.

Putin is making his 25th official visit to China in his quarter-century rule in Russia. During that time, Moscow and Beijing have significantly increased coordination in trade, diplomacy and security.

Today's talks between Putin and Xi Jinping are expected to focus on further expanding their "no-holds-barred" partnership, and will also provide both with an opportunity to discuss Trump's visit and the wars in Ukraine and Iran.
