The President of the United States stated that this is an international waterway.
US President Donald Trump said Washington opposes Iran charging Iran a fee for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We want it to be open <...> We don't want there to be a fee for passage. It's an international waterway," Trump said at the briefing, broadcast by CNBC.
The U.S. leader also said that ships do not enter or leave Iran without U.S. approval. According to Trump, Tehran loses up to $500 million daily because of this.
