The US Secretary of State commented on his phone conversation with Lavrov.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington is ready to continue to assist in order to bring the war in Ukraine to an end.
Radio Liberty Europe journalist Alex Raufoglu reported this on social media X.
Rubio said the U.S. is ready and prepared to do everything possible to achieve the result. He emphasized that attacks like the one on Kiev are another reminder of why the war must end.
"Every time you see these large-scale strikes from one side or the other, it's a reminder of why this is a terrible war that has lasted longer than World War II and why it must end. And the United States is ready and prepared to do everything it can to help bring about an end to this war, and hopefully at some point there will be an opportunity to play that role again," he told reporters during a visit to India.
He also commented on his telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The secretary of state said the Russian official gave him a message from Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, which is intended for U.S. President Donald Trump. Rubio says he has already delivered that message to the U.S. leader.
In addition, he downplayed speculation that with yesterday's statement, Russia was calling specifically for the U.S. to withdraw its embassy staff from Kiev. Rubio said Moscow has generally warned diplomatic missions that Ukraine's capital remains dangerous.
"The danger in all of these wars, as they continue, is that there is always the threat of escalation," he added.
