The President of Ukraine expressed his support to the people of Belarus.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with Svetlana Tikhanovska in Kiev during the International Summit of Cities and Regions.
Listing the guests of the forum, Zelensky noted during his speech that Belarus was participating in such a format for the first time.
Tikhanovska made a speech right after the Ukrainian president. She was introduced as the "head of the joint transition cabinet."
Later, Tikhanovska and Zelensky met behind closed doors.
"We all support the desire of the people of Belarus to get rid of Russian interference and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even more strongly into this war against Ukraine. We appreciate every show of support from the Belarusians for a free Ukraine and know that the day will come when there will be good neighborly relations between our states again, based on the real independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow.
This is what we talked about today with Svetlana Tikhanovska and her team, who is on a visit to Kiev. Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus. And we are grateful to those Belarusians who are now together with Ukraine when the fate of not only our independence, but also the independence of every nation bordering Russia is being decided," Zelensky said.
