The U.S. and Armenia launch the TRIPP project.
Washington and Yerevan signed a large strategic cooperation agreement under Trump's Track for International Peace and Prosperity Project - TRIPP. Details published by ArmenPress.
The document was signed on May 26 in Yerevan by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In addition to TRIPP, a memorandum on rare earth minerals and metals was also adopted.
This event is historic for Armenia. Not so long ago the republic was considered a zone of Russia's exclusive influence in the South Caucasus. But now Yerevan is increasingly building relations with the United States and European countries.
At the ceremony, Rubio supported the current course of the Armenian leadership.
Your entire team here in Armenia is paving the way for a brighter and more independent future for Armenia," he said.
The TRIPP project should turn Armenia into an important transportation and logistics hub in the region. It is about the construction and development of railroads, highways, energy infrastructure, pipelines, communication lines and power grids.
One of the key points of the agreement is the establishment of a joint company TRIPP Development Company. The controlling stake of 74% is to be obtained by the American side. Armenia will own 26%. The company will have exclusive rights to use and develop the territories related to TRIPP projects for 49 years with the possibility of extension.
At the same time Armenia retains full sovereignty over its territory, borders and infrastructure.
The agreement was another signal of Armenia's serious geopolitical turnaround, its departure from Moscow.
