Alimov will not take part in the UN Security Council meeting.
The US authorities have not issued a visa to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov to participate in a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. This was reported to TASS by Russia's post representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
He said Alimov was supposed to be part of the Russian delegation at the invitation of the foreign minister of China, the country currently chairing the Security Council. "However, despite all our attempts to get the U.S. side to issue him a visa, it was never issued," Nebenzya complained.
The Russian envoy accused the United States of "violating its obligations" as the host state of the UN headquarters, noting that it must provide access to "all officials without exception" of the organization's member states. He also called the denial of Alimov's visa a "blatant disrespect" to China's presidency of the Security Council and the topic of the meeting on the UN Charter.
This is not the first such case between Washington and Moscow recently. On April 28, Nebenzya said that the United States had not issued a visa to a Russian representative to attend a session of the UN General Assembly's Committee on Information.
