Russia's post-president to the UN reacted nervously to the situation.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya criticized Washington's refusal to issue a visa to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov, who was supposed to attend a UN Security Council meeting.
Russian news agency "Interfax" reported this.
Nebenzia saw such a US decision as "disrespect for China."
"Despite all our attempts to get the US side to issue him a visa, it was never issued. We consider this not only as a violation by Washington of its obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement (...), but also as a blatant disrespect for China's presidency of the Security Council and the topic we are discussing today - the UN Charter," he said during the meeting.
Nebenzia recalled that Alimov, who oversees UN issues, was scheduled to attend Tuesday's meeting at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. China holds the presidency of the UN Security Council in May.
