On the night of May 28, U.S. forces launched new strikes against Iran, hitting a facility near the Strait of Hormuz that posed a threat to the U.S. military and commercial vehicles. This was reported by Reuters and CNN, citing an administration official. The source said troops shot down four Iranian attack drones and struck a ground control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas from which a fifth UAV was being prepared to launch. "These actions were measured, purely defensive and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire," the official said.

The army in Kuwait, which hosts a U.S. airbase, said early Thursday morning that its air defense systems were intercepting "enemy" missile and drone threats. The military said the sounds of explosions were the result of intercepted projectiles (by whom they were fired, it was not specified), and urged citizens to follow safety instructions. For its part, the IRGC reported that at 4:50 local time it struck a US airbase "as the source of the attack" on Bandar Abbas.

On the night of May 26, the US had already struck two IRGC gunboats and SAMs in Bandar Abbas, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported. It was noted that the attack was carried out "in self-defense" - the boats were trying to place mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and the missile launcher was aimed at US warplanes. Tehran viewed the move as a violation of an April cease-fire agreement.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump denied reports by Iranian state media that Iran and Oman would jointly manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential peace deal. Trump has stated that this waterway will remain open.
