A reason has been given.
Israel has officially expanded its military campaign in southern Lebanon and ordered locals to leave their homes immediately. The army is preparing to operate with huge force in the newly created war zone.
According to France24.
The Israeli army has declared a huge area in southern Lebanon a danger zone. The front line has now officially shifted to the Zahrani River, which runs about 40 kilometers from the Israeli border. The military is demanding that civilians urgently relocate north of the water.
"We are advising residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate north of the Zahrani River, as all areas south of the river are considered a combat zone," an IDF spokesman said.
The area ordered to be liberated covers nearly 2,000 square kilometers. Israel plans to attack Hezbollah positions here, so people are being urged to stay away from weapons storage sites and militant facilities.
France24 reports that Israel has carried out more than 120 strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon in recent days. This has happened despite an April ceasefire agreement.
Journalists' sources in Lebanon's security services report traffic jams. People are heading to the port city of Sidon. Thousands of refugees are already there.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu attributed his actions to security. Hezbollah is constantly shelling northern Israel and the IDF must take further action in Lebanon. The goal is the same - to protect northern communities from terror. At the same time, Israel is trying to avoid strikes on Beirut, which helps to avoid disrupting US diplomatic talks with Iran.
