Threats of Sergey Lavrov against foreign diplomats in Kiev show Russia's complete hopelessness on the front.

U.S. Congressman Jim Himes said this at a briefing in Kiev, according to the correspondent of RBC-Ukraine.

U.S. House Intelligence Committee member Jim Himes said Lavrov's threats meant three things.

First, it is a sign of utter desperation, as for the first time in a long time Russia is losing ground in Ukraine by overall numbers.

"The Russian people should look at the sacrifice they are being asked to make in terms of their own blood, their own sons for this insane dictator who is losing ground in Ukraine," Himes said.

He added that the Ukrainian military will continue to retake territory in the coming months, at a tremendous cost to Russia.

The second, according to the congressman, is recognizing the mindset of a man who is comfortable committing war crimes.

He noted that threats to civilians and diplomats demonstrate how easily Russia targets hospitals, maternity hospitals and nongovernmental organizations delivering aid to communities along the front lines.

The third effect, Himes said, would be the exact opposite of what Moscow expected. The congressman said he is already planning his next trip to Kiev, and will return to Washington with the senator to push for more resources for Ukraine.

"Everything that Sergey Lavrov represents is exactly what a free people should be fighting against," he concluded.
