Pete Hegseth made an encouraging statement for Kiev.
Washington plans to achieve world leadership in the drone field thanks to the lessons of Russia's war against Ukraine. In addition, the U.S. seeks to preserve Kiev's ability to defend itself and promises to find a way to support it.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said this during a security forum in Singapore on May 30, writes Clash Report.
He said the experience will directly influence the formation of next year's U.S. defense budget.
"In President [Donald] Trump's 2027 budget, you'll see $56 billion of investment in drone dominance. We continue to learn from what Ukraine has done on the battlefield. We've learned a lot from Ukraine and how they operate. We intend to be not just on par, but to be the best in the world at this," the Pentagon chief emphasized.
Hegseth also commented on the involvement of European allies and Washington's continued support for Kiev, noting that the US is committed to preserving Ukraine's ability to defend itself.
"Where we could help Ukraine - we did. Where we could have encouraged Europe to do more - we also did. If you look at the amount of money spent, Europe has really stepped up, and Ukraine has been just as, if not more, effective in that process. So we want them to be able to defend themselves, and we will find a way to make sure we can help them," Hegseth summarized.
