General Kellogg Had A Strong Message For Moscow

Trump's former special counsel says Russia's losses are huge.

Former US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg has said that Russia is not succeeding in the war and is actually losing, urging Moscow to return to negotiations. He said this on Fox News.

He said the Ukrainian army is highly effective. Since 2014, Ukraine has lost about 1 percent of its territory, which Kellogg said does not indicate a Russian victory. He emphasized that with a real success, Russian troops would already be behind the Dnieper River, as well as in Kharkiv or Kiev, which did not happen.

Kellogg also noted Russia's significant losses. According to various estimates, they range from 1.2 to 1.4 million killed and wounded. For comparison, he cited the war in Afghanistan, where the Soviet Union lost about 18,000 troops. At the same time, Russian forces have so far failed to fully establish control over Donbass because of the fortified Ukrainian positions.

Talking about the prospects for negotiations, Kellogg emphasized that Europe should play a key role in the process. He also warned that a possible weakening of Ukrainian defenses in Donbass could lead to the advance of Russian troops deep into the country, all the way to Kiev.
