Pete Hegseth stated that Iran certainly doesn't have them.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth rejected speculation that Iran was using trained and "kamikaze dolphins" armed with explosives to block the Strait of Hormuz, but would not answer a question about whether the United States might have such capabilities.
"I can neither confirm nor deny that we have kamikaze dolphins, but I can say for sure that they [Iran] don't have them," he said at a press conference.
In response, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kane joked, making a reference to the "Austin Powers" film series where Dr. Evil demanded "sharks with lasers on their heads." "It's like sharks with laser beams, right?" - he said.
Earlier in 2000, the BBC reported that dolphins and other aquatic mammals that had been trained to "kill for the Soviet Navy" had been sold to Iran. "The dolphins allegedly could distinguish between foreign and Soviet submarines by the sound of the propeller," the article said.
