Armenia Responds To Nervous Tirade Of Lukashenko's Foreign Ministry

The model of state administration of Belarus is unacceptable for Yerevan.

Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan commented on the nervous reaction of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to his words about the country and explained what, in his opinion, influences the deterioration of relations between Minsk and Yerevan. This is reported by Panorama.

Answering the journalists' request to comment on the Belarusian Foreign Ministry's statement about "electoral populism" in Armenia, Simonyan said:

"I don't comment. Belarus is Belarus, Armenia is Armenia. I am responsible for my country."

Talking about bilateral relations, he emphasized that it is not his statements, but Minsk's position that causes tension:

"It is not this that worsens relations, but the disrespectful attitude towards Armenia, its CSTO ally, and Armenian statehood. Preparations for a 44-day war with Azerbaijan have worsened relations. There are many factors that worsen relations, and the political course is the choice of each state."

Simonyan also said that Belarus' model of governance is unacceptable for his country:

"For Armenia, human rights and freedoms are the most important values. I believe that every country chooses its own way: we have chosen the way of democratization, and they have chosen a somewhat different way, not like Armenia".

In conclusion, he stressed the commitment to Armenia's sovereign development:

"Armenia will not be a province, Armenia will not be in political dependence, Armenia will raise the level of its sovereignty, and the example of governance in Belarus is unacceptable for my country. Armenia is a free country, with its free media, human rights, rule of law."

The Lukashenko Foreign Ministry took offense at the statement of Alen Simonyan, who called the Belarusian regime a province of Russia.
