Lithuania And Poland Are Ready To Accept The US Military If It Withdraws From Germany

The two presidents made the announcement during a military exercise near the Suvalka Corridor.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki and his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda said their countries are ready to host the U.S. military if the United States decides to draw down its contingent in Germany.

They said this during the Brave Gryphon 26-II military exercise near the Suwałki Corridor.

Nauseda noted that Europe's security is indivisible, and Lithuania is interested in keeping the US military on the continent even in case of withdrawal from Germany.

"We in Lithuania are ready to receive as many allies as we are able, and for this we are implementing all the necessary infrastructure - both for exercises and for military deployment," he said.

Nauseda said that more than 1,000 US military personnel are already stationed in the country. And by the end of 2027, Lithuania plans to fully deploy a 5,000-strong German brigade.

Nawrocki said Poland is also ready to receive the US contingent. He said the country already has the necessary infrastructure.

"It is in the interest of Poland and the Baltic states to have as many U.S. military personnel stationed here as possible," he said.

The Polish president stressed that since the end of the Cold War, "the center of gravity of Europe's security" has shifted to NATO's eastern flank.

He noted that if there is a tactical or strategic movement of the military from Germany toward Poland or the Baltic states, they will only feel safer.
