The ship stopped traveling toward Iran.
The U.S. military's Central Command reported on social network X that the U.S. military on Wednesday stopped and disabled an Iranian-flagged oil tanker traveling toward a port in Iran.
According to the command's statement, the incident occurred around 09:00 U.S. Eastern Time in the international waters of the Gulf of Oman. The tanker Hasna was heading toward the Iranian coast.
The U.S. military department says the ship's crew failed to respond to repeated warnings. An F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter-bomber from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) then fired a 20-millimeter cannon, damaging the tanker's steering.
The U.S. Central Command said the vessel stopped heading toward Iran after the incident.
