Ukrainian intelligence warned them of the consequences.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry on the War&Sanctions portal in the "Naval Vessels" section published the data of 12 tankers used by the Russian Federation to export oil and oil products and more than 200 captains involved in the transportation of military cargo and products removed from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The GUR press service provided information about ten tankers of the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation with fictitious flags, with non-transparent ownership structure, as well as two tankers of Greek shipping companies. They serve the interests of major Russian oil and gas corporations: "Surgutneftegaz", "Rosneft", "Novatek", "Lukoil" and others.
Such exports are a key source of replenishment of the military budget of the Russian Federation. Most captains and ships are already under Ukrainian sanctions, but there is a need to synchronize restrictions with international partners, including banning ships from entering ports and denial of service.
Captains have full information about routes, cargo value, technical condition of ships and their threats to the environment. They knowingly violate international regulations, manipulate the AIS system and use risky cargo transfer schemes.
Ukrainian intelligence called on crew members to refuse to participate in illegal actions, recalling that shady operating companies disappear at the first sign of an investigation, leaving seafarers alone with legal consequences.
