The new rules open the US market for Ukrainian defense companies.

Draft amendments to the U.S. Department of Justice's rules to remove Ukraine from the list of countries subject to restrictions on arms imports were released on Thursday. This was announced by Ukraine's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States Olga Stefanyshina.

This was reported by "Censor.NET" with reference to the statement of Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanyshina.

The new rules allow legal import of certain categories of Ukrainian weapons, ammunition and components to the United States. They also remove regulatory barriers for Ukrainian defense-tech companies to enter the U.S. market and harmonize the policies of the U.S. State Department and DOJ toward Ukraine.

The U.S. federal arms, explosives, alcohol and tobacco control agency (ATF) will review applications for imports from Ukraine on a case-by-case basis. After the completion of public comment, which will last until July 6, 2026, the Justice Department will adopt the final version of the rules.

The only country for which restrictions on arms imports will remain in place will be Russia.
