China's former defense ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shanfu have been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve. They were accused of corruption.

China's Xinhua news agency explains that the two-year reprieve given to the two former ministers by a military court on Thursday effectively means that the death sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment without parole after two years.

The assets of both ministers have been confiscated, writes BBC.

Wei Fenghe served as defense minister from 2018 to 2023. Li Shanfu succeeded him in March 2023, but only served as minister until October. However, during this period, he managed to visit Minsk and hold talks with Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarusian dictator praised Li Shanfu and called him "the most media person in the world".
