In The Border Area Of The Gomel Region They Began To Live With The Sounds Of Explosions

The reason is Russia's new attack tactics on Ukraine.

Monitoring of violations of Belarusian airspace during Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory continues "Flagstaff" and tells what the situation was like in May 2026.

The usual system, when almost all overflights were recorded by Ukrainian monitoring channels, became ineffective. The number of "unaccounted" UAVs has increased, which are becoming known thanks to the testimonies of local residents.

In addition, mass flights of Ukrainian drones through Bryansk region with possible deviations towards Belarus have been added.

The last recorded cases of Russian drones flying into Gomel region were recorded by the monitors on May 30-31. The channel "Rynda Monitor" reported that a UAV was moving from the territory of Belarus in the direction of Polessky Nature Reserve in Zhitomir region at about 07:40 on May 30.

The day before, on May 31 at about 13:40 the channel "eRadar" informed that a drone was flying into Belarus through Dobryanka.

So, taking into account the previous publications of "Flagstaff", it can be stated that only the recorded cases of overflights in May were at least 18.

At the same time, the population of the districts of Gomel region bordering Ukraine began to live under the frequent sounds of explosions, which are heard from the neighboring territory. This is the result of the new tactics of the Russian Federation: Russian troops periodically launch attack drones from Bryansk region to Ukraine along the border of Belarus at a distance of 5-10 kilometers.

Ukrainian air defense seeks to shoot down drones on their way. When they are shot down, explosions occur - that is, residents of the border areas began to hear the work of the Ukrainian air defense forces from the territory of Belarus.

The last such case was reported by the AFU Air Force just on May 31, when a group of UAVs around 14.

This tactic is aimed at complicating the work of Ukrainian air defense and using Belarusian airspace as cover. UAVs fly in a column (chain) parallel to the border to avoid early detection and break deep into the western or central regions of Ukraine.

By the way, in May, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down a record number of Russian drones in the skies above Chernihiv region. As noted, we are talking about almost 1,400 destroyed UAVs. This was reported by the head of the Chernihiv OVA Vyacheslav Chaus on his Facebook page.

"In May, the Defense Forces shot down 1,390 attack drones in the skies above Chernihivshchyna. More than 250 more drones were locally lost or suppressed by REB means. This is a record number of downed drones compared to any previous month. The aggressor has significantly increased the number of strikes on Chernihivshchyna over the past month. And we have increased our air defense density accordingly."
